Excavator bucket digging soil for inspection

Why We Quote On-Site (And Won't Give A Number Over The Phone)

Half the calls we get start with 'just give me a ballpark.' We don't. Here's why — and why that's better for both of us.

The price is in the soil

Two yards 50 miles apart can have completely different soil — Rockwall sits on Houston Black clay, Athens on sandy loam, Canton has caliche pockets. The hourly cost to dig those three is different. The bucket fill rate is different. The way the spoil handles is different.

A phone quote assumes one set of conditions. The actual site has a different set. The contractor either bids low and loses on the job, or bids high and the customer overpays for what their property actually needs.

The price is in the access

A pond site we can drive a dump truck right to is a different price than the same pond on the back of 80 acres with a half-mile of pasture road in. A demo job on a corner lot with two-side access is different from the same demo on a tight lot between two houses with a single-truck-wide gate.

We can't see any of that from a phone call. We can after a 30-minute walk.

The price is in what the customer actually wants

Most customers describe the job differently than they mean it. 'I need drainage' could mean a French drain, a regrade, a culvert, or a perched-water sub-grade fix. They all cost different. We walk it together so we agree on the scope before there's a number.

The result is a quote that matches the job. The number you sign is the number you pay unless you change the scope later.

Bottom Line

We don't quote over the phone because it isn't fair to either side. A free 30-minute site walk gets you a real number and gets us a real job. Call and we'll set it up.
