The problem
“The lake or creek bank is eroding and taking the yard with it.”
What you're seeing
The bank retreating year over year, taking yard with it
Exposed roots, slumping soil, and a steepening drop to the water
Runoff cutting channels down the slope toward the water
Bare, washed-out ground where grass won't hold
Why it happens in East Texas
On Cedar Creek Lake and the other East Texas lakes, the bank gets attacked from two sides, wave action at the waterline and runoff coming down the slope from above. The sandy loam and caliche soils around Gun Barrel City, Mabank, and Athens hold poorly once the cover's gone, so erosion accelerates fast.
How we fix it
We stabilize the toe of the bank where the water hits, protect the slope above with riprap, blanket, or planted cover, and route the yard's runoff to exit away from the bank instead of over it. The fix has to satisfy the lake's vegetation-buffer and setback rules, so we design it to live inside the setback rather than fight it.
How the work goes
01
Read the water and the slope
We identify whether wave action, runoff, or both are driving the loss, and where the runoff is concentrating.
02
Protect the toe and the slope
Toe protection at the waterline, riprap or blanket and planted cover up the slope, sized for the energy hitting it.
03
Redirect the runoff
The yard's water gets routed to a stable discharge away from the bank so it stops cutting the slope from the top down.
Where we see it most
Cedar Creek Lake shoreline in Henderson County, Gun Barrel City, Mabank, Athens, and the lake country of Franklin County around Lake Cypress Springs.
The service that fixes it
Erosion Control
One East Texas thunderstorm can wash away months of work on a disturbed site. We get silt fencing up, slopes stabilized, and seed down before the next rain finds you.
