- Q01What's the best rock for a gravel driveway in East Texas?
- For most East Texas driveways, crushed limestone over a compacted road base holds best and looks cleanest. Caliche is the value pick for long ranch roads on clay, it binds hard when compacted. The right choice depends on your soil and traffic, which we read on site before quoting.
- Q02Why does my gravel driveway keep washing out or rutting?
- Almost always because it was dumped on dirt with no base or crown. Surface rock on bare clay ruts the first wet season. A driveway that lasts needs a compacted road-base lift, a crown to shed water, and culverts where it crosses drainage. We rebuild it right.
- Q03How much does a gravel or caliche driveway cost?
- It depends on length, width, surface material, and how much base your soil needs. We measure the exact tonnage and give a firm number after a free on-site walk, no ballpark over the phone, because the base and drainage drive the cost as much as the rock.
- Q04Can you fix an existing driveway instead of rebuilding it?
- Often, yes. If the base is sound we regrade, recrown, add material, and set drainage. If it was built straight on dirt, a regrade-and-recompact with a proper base is the fix that actually lasts. We tell you which at the walk.

- Built on a compacted base with a proper crown and drainage, a gravel or caliche driveway holds for years with only occasional topping up. Built straight on dirt with no base, it ruts out the first wet season. The base and the drainage, not the surface rock, decide how long it lasts.
- Q06How many inches of rock does a driveway need?
- Most East Texas driveways want 4 to 6 inches of compacted road base, then 2 to 4 inches of surface rock on top. Soft clay or heavy traffic needs more base; firmer ground needs less. We measure the run and read the soil to set the depth, then compact it in lifts.
- Q07Can you build a driveway culvert or fix one that floods?
- Yes. Where a driveway crosses a ditch or low spot, we size and set a culvert so water passes under the drive instead of washing over it. An undersized or crushed culvert is a common reason a driveway floods or cuts out, so we size it to the watershed it actually carries.
- Q08Do you build long ranch and commercial driveways?
- Yes, from a short residential apron to a half-mile ranch road or a commercial entrance. Longer drives need a base matched to the soil along their length, real drainage crossings, and a crown that sheds water, so we measure and spec the whole run rather than pricing it by a flat per-foot guess.
